Netspinner trivia...

Did you know that there is a commercial canning industry in Japan for  
edible netspinners?  The delicacy is called zaza mushi (insects from  
the gurgling streams), and licensed zaza mushi hunters can sell their  
catch for up to $40/pound.  Netspinners are best harvested in  
December and January, when their fat and carbohydrate contents are  
highest.

Spring Family ID Workshops for certified monitors...

If you are a certified monitor and you have not yet attended a Family  
ID Workshop, please RSVP for one of the following dates. The workshop  
is an opportunity for you to learn more family ID skills to use in  
the field.  All of the workshops will be held at Ivy Creek Natural Area.

Tuesday March 10, 6-8pm
Saturday April 4, 10am-noon
Tuesday April 14, 6-8pm
Saturday May 2, 10am-noon

March Introductory Training Workshop...

StreamWatch is hosting a volunteer stream monitor training workshop  
on Saturday, March 21, from 10am until 4pm in Charlottesville.  The  
session will cover the fundamentals of stream biological sampling -  
catching and identifying aquatic invertebrates for the purpose of  
evaluating water quality and stream health.  The training is free,  
but class size is limited.  To reserve a space, or for further  
information about becoming a StreamWatch volunteer, contact Rose.

End-of-winter potluck...

Let's celebrate the end of winter!  Even if you didn't have a chance  
to take any samples this season, please join us for the end-of-winter  
potluck:

*When:  Saturday March 14, 11am - 2pm
*Where: To Be Announced
*What to bring: Food or drink to share + Your own dishes and  
napkin... _Let's try to make this a zero-garbage potluck_
*Carpool challenge: As always, there will be special prizes for  
carpoolers
